Adopt the pace of nature:  her secret is patience. –Ralph Waldo Emerson

spider-in-web

I am quite the fan of the American Transcendentalists; at least their philosophies on religion, spirituality, and the natural world.

Patience is something that must be learned.  And the funny thing is that one must have patience in order to learn patience.  What a beautifully cruel irony.

I was a fairly patient child as I recall.  I can remember spending hours upon hours upon hours creating a single pencil drawing.  And I did this fairly regularly.  As I got older, my proclivity for exercising patience gradually dwindled.  Since taking up residence on a sailboat, I have discovered that the only way to live on a sailboat is to exercise patience.  Or it might be that patience is easily exercised because the rest of the world is not incessantly bearing down on you.  Most likely it is a combination of both.  Regardless, life just moves slower on a sailboat.  That is not to say that the ticking of the clock slows.  It is just that I find myself not in so much of a hurry.  I figure everything will happen in due time, as in nature.
